There are many opportunities for scenic hikes close to Glenwood Springs:
Popular hikes including Grizzly Creek and Hanging Lake are easily reached from the Convention site by car or the bike trail that runs along the Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon. Grizzly Creek flows out of a deep side canyon with steep walls; hikers simply follow the trail along the cascading creek and then turn around to enjoy the downhill trek back to Glenwood Canyon. Hanging Lake is reached by a well developed trail that is one mile long and climbs 1000 feet. Stunning waterfalls descend over tufa-covered cliffs into the tufa-dammed lake.
The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area is located less than an hour from Convention. The much-photographed view of the Maroon Bells peaks can be reached from a shuttle bus to Maroon Lake. Other trailheads lead into the wilderness.
