Bats and Watersheds
Groundwater and Karst Education

Project Underground LogoLearn about the development of karst topography and the impacts of human activity on the water resources in karst areas. Discuss public policy decisions relating to watersheds and the unique karst environment.  Learn about the unique biodiversity in karst systems. Participate in some activities geared to teach about karst in your classroom. Receive the Project Underground curriculum guide and many supporting resource materials, including great posters. Learn about topographic maps and how to delineate watersheds using these maps.

Learn about the White Nose Syndrome (WNS) affecting the bats in the eastern United States. The Project Underground guide has bat education materials, including an activity called “Calculating the Value of Bats” to help bring math into the science classroom and other activities on how bats fit into our ecosystem.

These resources will address watershed and earth science education standards plus help with many additional sciences, social science and cross curriculum standards. The classroom activities provided are good for all grade levels but are especially good for upper elementary, middle and high school.
